Units

Numeric objects and some property types in EcoStruxure Building Operation support configurable units of measure. In certain object types, the unit is predefined and cannot be modified. The configured unit applies to the value stored in the server.

Unit Categories

All units belong to a unit category. A unit category represents a physical quantity. Examples include:

  • Power: W, VA, horsepower, Btu/h

  • Temperature: °C, °F

  • Pressure, Length, Flow, etc.

Measurement Systems

EcoStruxure Building Operation supports the following measurement systems:

  • International System of Units (Metric)

  • United States Customary Units (US)

Some units are identical across both systems (for example A, V, %, s), while others differ depending on regional usage (for example °C and °F).

Units in WorkStation and WebStation

As in Microsoft Windows (Auto in WebStation)

Values are displayed according to the Region settings of the operating system running WorkStation or WebStation.

If the server stores a value in °C but the client’s region uses US customary units, the value is shown in °F.

As Configured in Object

The value is displayed using the unit configured in the object. The client’s measurement system does not affect the presentation.

When this option is used, unit conversion exceptions are disabled.

International System of Units (Metric)

Values are displayed in SI units.

United States Customary Units (US)

Values are displayed in US customary units.

Note:

The measurement system affects only how values are displayed in WorkStation and WebStation. Stored server values are not changed.

Default units

Each unit category defines a default unit for each measurement system. If a value must be displayed using a different measurement system than the one used to store the value, the system uses the category’s default unit for the target measurement system.

Unit Exceptions

You can define unit conversion exception rules when a unit other than the default unit is preferred.

Other Exceptions

Values are always shown using the configured unit in the following contexts:

  • Alarms and trend logs in wizards

  • Customized alarm views

  • Alarm and trend log properties panes

Delta Temperature Conversion

The software converts units independently of context. To correctly convert delta temperature values, the unit must belong to the Temperature Diff category.

Absolute temperature conversions include both a multiplier and an offset, for example: T (°F) = T (°C) × 9/5 + 32

Delta temperature values must therefore use the following formula:ΔT (°F) = (9/5) × ΔT (°C)
