Use this workflow to perform flow balancing on a single VAV controller, using the Commission mobile application. Related information can be found in the section after the flowchart.
For more information, see Flow Balancing .
Start the Commission mobile application and log in as either a Technician or Flow Balancer.
For more information, see Downloading and Starting the eCommission SmartX Controllers Mobile Application .
Discover controllers on the site, and connect to a single VAV controller.
For more information, see Device Connection .
You configure the VAV controller setpoints to set up the parameters by which the controller is flow balanced. These setpoints include the maximum flow setpoint, selected by default, and the intermediate and minimum flow setpoints, which are optional.
For more information, see Configuring VAV Controller Setpoints .
Once the setpoints are configured and before the flow balance is started, the damper is forced closed to obtain an average reading of the zero flow threshold before continuing to balance for each setpoint. You can either apply these changes, or ignore once the calculation is completed.
For more information, see VAV Objects Provided for the Commission Mobile Application .
For more information, see VAV Controller Automatic Velocity Pressure Offset Calibration .
To skip the velocity pressure offset reading, click the Bypass velocity pressure offset box on the Setpoints page. If you have a large number of VAV boxes to balance, this process can be time-consuming, so you may wish bypass it as needed.
Using the Commission mobile application, you flow balance a VAV unit at each designated setpoint to achieve the desired air flow.
For more information, see Flow Balancing at Minimum, Intermediate, or Maximum Flow Setpoint .
After flow balancing the VAV controller, you can perform manual checkout on two components of the controller:
Verify direction of rotation to open
You can manually verify the direction of damper rotation to determine whether the actuator rotates clockwise or counterclockwise to open.
For more information, see Manually Verifying the Direction of Damper Rotation .
Manual checkouts of air flow
After completing the automated flow balancing process, you can optionally verify and command the air flow values by performing manual checkout.
For more information, see Performing Manual Checkout of Air Flow .
After completing flow balancing, you can use the Commission mobile application to create, append, view, or delete flow balance reports. For more information, see Managing Flow Balance Reports .
