The RP-V controller is a room-purpose, fully programmable, IP based field controller dedicated for VAV cooling and Heating applications. RP-V integrates a controller, a damper actuator, and an air flow sensor in a single compact unit for ease of installation. The controller can either be used as a standalone BACnet field controller or as part of an EcoStruxure BMS with an automation server or an Enterprise Server as the parent server. The BACnet/IP enabled RP-V controller can also be reconfigured through the EcoStruxure Building Operation software to support BACnet MS/TP, instead of BACnet/IP. The RP-V features a wireless chip that allows a mobile device running the Commission mobile application to connect directly to the controller.
The RP-V allows for flexible control solutions due to the dual Ethernet ports, the interface to SpaceLogic Sensor devices, the interface for support of Connected Room Solutions with RP controller expansion modules, and the versatile mix of universal inputs/outputs and solid-state relay (SSR) outputs.
When RP-V controllers are part of an EcoStruxure BMS, you can take full advantage of the existing EcoStruxure Building Operation engineering tools.
The RP-V is available in different models, including a model that only supports BACnet MS/TP communication, with a reduced set of communication ports, and do no support features such as wireless connectivity.
The RP-V controller is available in two models that support both BACnet/IP and MS/TP communication. These two models offer two different combinations (sets) of the number of I/O points and types of I/O points. The RP-V controller also comes in a model that only supports BACnet MS/TP communication.
For more information, see RP-V Models .
The RP-V controller models provide four or five I/O points, consisting of two different sets of I/O point types. The versatile mix of I/O point types match a wide variety of VAV applications. The universal inputs/outputs are highly flexible and can be configured as either inputs or outputs.
For more information, see RP-V Onboard I/O .
The MP-V and RP-V controllers have an integrated damper actuator, which allows for simplified installation of the VAV controller directly over the damper shaft.
For more information, see Damper Actuator .
The MP-V and RP-V controllers use a digital pressure sensor to measure the air velocity pressure signal from the velocity probe in the inlet of the VAV box. The measured value is used by the controller to position the VAV damper actuator for the required air flow.
For more information, see Air Flow Sensor .
The RP-V has a built-in isolated power supply designed to accommodate a nominal operating voltage of 24 VAC at 50/60 Hz input power.
For more information, see RP-V Built-in Isolated Power Supply .
RP and MP controllers and I/O modules are devices that have three types of memory:
Flash memory: for boot loader, operating system, application software, and configuration storage
RAM: for runtime operation
FRAM non-volatile memory: for data retention in the case of power outage
For more information, see Memory in RP and MP Controllers and I/O Modules .
One of the cornerstones of the EcoStruxure BMS is support for open standards. As a result, the RP and MP controllers comply with the BACnet open standard, one of the most popular standards for buildings.
For more information, see RP and MP Controller Supported Building Standards .
The RP controllers are Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) enabled products. You can use this wireless connectivity option for connecting a smartphone or tablet running the Commission mobile application to the RP controllers.
For more information, see RP Controller Wireless Connectivity .
The RP controller provides a combination of communication ports, such as:
Ethernet port(s)
USB port(s)
RS-485 port(s)
For more information, see RP-V Communication Ports .
The RP-V sensor bus allows SpaceLogic Sensor devices to be connected to the controller.
For more information, see RP-V Sensor Bus .
The RP controller room bus allows RP controller expansion modules to be connected to the controller for people counting, motion detection, luminosity and sound pressure level measurements, Bluetooth Low Energy based applications, and control of electric lights and window blinds.
For more information, see RP-V Room Bus .
The RP controller Modbus RTU (RS-485) subnetwork allows standard Modbus devices and the KNX Modbus gateway (RP-C-EXT-KNX) to be connected to the controller. An adapter is required for converting the controller RS-485 Com port with RJ45 interface to screw terminals.
For more information, see RP-V Modbus .
The RP-V controllers support BACnet MS/TP communication. The BACnet MS/TP configuration differs between the RP-V models. The BACnet/IP enabled RP-V controllers can be reconfigured to communicate with automation servers based on the BACnet MS/TP protocol, instead of the BACnet/IP protocol. An adapter is required for converting the controller RS-485 Com port with RJ45 interface to screw terminals. There is also an RP-V model designed for connection to a BACnet MS/TP (RS-485) network and this model can only communicate via MS/TP.
For more information, see RP-V BACnet MS/TP Support .
You must configure the DIP switches as part of the commissioning process for RP controllers that support MS/TP communications.
For more information, see MS/TP DIP Switches .
The RP-V has fixed screw terminals for the power input, SSR outputs, and universal inputs/outputs. The RP-V-5C-M model also has a removable screw terminal block for connection to the BACnet MS/TP (RS-485) network.
For more information, see RP-V Screw Terminals .
You can reset and restart the RP controllers in different ways depending on how long you press the reset button. The resets and restarts can affect the retention of values after restart based on the retain levels configured for the variables.
For more information, see RP Controller Reset Modes .
The RP-V incorporates an integral actuator and the device is designed for over-the-shaft damper installation.
For more information, see RP-V Device Installation .
The wiring recommendations provide guidance regarding wiring of the Central IO modules, automation servers, RP and MP controllers, IP-IO modules, RP controller expansion modules, and Operator Display.
For more information, see Wiring .
Using WorkStation, you can update the firmware of multiple BACnet/IP devices and their attached SpaceLogic Sensor devices and RP controller expansion modules at the same time with minimum downtime. In particular, the universal upgrade package simplifies the update process and requires minimal user involvement and coordination.
SpaceLogic Sensor devices and RP controller expansion modules are supported by the RP controller.
For more information, see BACnet/IP Device Firmware Management .
This section provides information on regulatory compliance and approvals for the RP-V controllers.
