RS-485 Power Adapter Ports, Terminals, and Switch

The RS-485 Power Adapter is equipped with dual RJ45 ports, a 4-position removable screw terminal block, and a 2-pole slide switch.

RJ45 ports

The adapter's two RJ45 ports are marked:

  • IN PORT

  • OUT PORT

You use the IN PORT to connect the adapter to an RP or MP controller RS-485 Com (RJ45) port when you want to convert the RJ45 interface to/from screw terminals.

You use both the IN PORT and OUT PORT to connect the adapter to an RS-485 based network with RJ45 interface, such as Room Bus or Sensor Bus, when you want to connect an external 24 VDC power supply to the bus.

Screw terminals

The 4-position removable screw terminal block allows connection either to an RS-485 based network such as a Modbus RTU network or to an external 24 VDC power supply.

Slide switch

The 2-pole slide switch has two positions, which are marked:

  • 24 VDC EXT

  • 24 VDC INT

The switch allows the choice to inject 24 VDC to an RS-485 bus, thereby powering devices connected to the bus. 24 VDC can either be supplied via the adapter from an external 24 VDC power supply or from the RP or MP controller RS-485 Com port.

You move the switch to the EXT (External) position when you want to use an external 24 VDC power supply.

Aviso

It is recommended to move the slide switch on the adapter to the EXT (External) position before connecting the external 24 VDC power supply.

You move the switch to the INT (Internal) position when you want to use the RP or MP controller to supply 24 VDC (3 W or 2 W).
