Communication Ports on RP-V-5C-M

The RP-V-5C-M model provides the following communication ports:

  • One RS-485 port with RJ45 interface

  • One RS-485 port with terminal block

RS-485 Port with RJ45 Interface

The RS-485 port is labeled:

  • RS-485 Com A

The RS-485 Com A port is rated 3 W (24 VDC).

The RS-485 Com A port is an RJ45 port. For more information, see RJ45 Pinout for the RS-485 Port(s) of the RP-V Controllers .

The RS-485 Com A port can be configured to use one of the following two communication protocols for different types of networks:

  • Sensor bus

  • Modbus

Note:

An RP-V can have only one of each network type.

The sensor bus is designed for communication with SpaceLogic Sensor devices. For more information, see RP-V Sensor Bus .

The Modbus (RTU) network can be used for communication with standard Modbus devices. For more information, see RP-V Modbus .

Default configuration:

  • Sensor bus on the RS-485 Com A port

For more information, see Communication Port Wiring .

For more information, see Allocating Flexible Ports .

RS-485 Port with Terminal Block

The RS-485 port with screw terminal block is used for connection to the BACnet MS/TP (RS-485) network.

The screw terminals are labeled:

  • RS-485+

  • RS-485–

  • Shield

For more information, see RP-V-5C-M Screw Terminals .

For more information, see RS-485 Communications .
