Top Server Concept
Central licensing is administered from the top server in the system using Device Administrator. When the top server is added to Device Administrator you can assign and activate all licenses required on your system from Device Administrator.
The attached child servers get their licenses from the parent server which is an Enterprise Server or Enterprise Central. So, you cannot assign licenses directly on an attached server.
You do not have to add all the attached child servers to Device Administrator, only the top server must be added to Device Administrator.
A top server is indicated by a green check-mark in the top server column in Device Administrator. You can have a number of top servers in the same Device List in Device Administrator.
In an Enterprise Central system with one or many attached Enterprise Servers and field servers, the Enterprise Central is the top server where you install the entitlement.
In an Enterprise Server system with one or many field servers, the Enterprise Server is the top server where you install the entitlement.
In a field server stand-alone system, the entitlement is installed on the field server.
Only one Entitlement is needed for every EcoStruxure Building Management System. The same entitlement is used through the whole life cycle of the system. If you want to expand your system with new features that requires new licenses the new licenses are added to the entitlement already in use.
When the new licenses have been purchased you use the reclaiming licenses feature to update the entitlement with the new licenses.

Enterprise Server or Enterprise Central must be added to Device Administrator after an upgrade to 7.0 or higher. Only the top server must be added. For example, if an Enterprise Central is the top server, the attached Enterprise Server does not have to be added to Device Administrator for licensing purpose.
