AD v2 uses a wired (USB) connection to communicate with EcoStruxure BMS servers. During installation and commissioning, you can use a wireless access point to establish communication between AD v2 and EcoStruxure BMS servers. AD v2 can be powered either by a SmartX AS-P server, SmartX AS-B server, or USB power adapter, but not by an Automation Server.

Communication over a USB Connection

The preinstalled SmartX AD-Link application enables AD v2 to communicate with EcoStruxure BMS servers over a USB connection.

When AD v2 is connected to a SmartX AS-P server or SmartX AS-B server, AD v2 can be powered by the SmartX server through the USB cable. The screen must not be turned on constantly because this may drain the battery.

Notice

LOSS OF DATA OR POWER

  • Use only USB cables ordered from Schneider Electric.

  • Use only USB cables that are designed for AD.

  • Do not use USB cables that exceed 3 m (10 ft).

Failure to follow these instructions can result in loss of data or power.

When AD v2 is connected to an Automation Server, AD v2 must be powered by a USB power adapter. The Automation Server does not provide enough power for AD v2. A USB “Y” cable allows you to connect AD v2 to two different devices, an Automation Server and a USB power adapter, to receive data and power respectively. The screen must not be turned on constantly because this may drain the battery.
