The MP-C controller and IP-IO module, which are based on the same hardware platform, are installed using either of two methods: they can be snapped onto a DIN rail or screwed onto a flat surface inside a cabinet.
The MP-C controller is a multi-purpose, fully programmable, IP-based field controller with a flexible mix of I/O point types that suit a wide range of HVAC applications. The MP-C can be snapped onto a DIN rail or screw-mounted onto a flat surface inside a cabinet. There are 5 models of the MP-C, each equipped with a different quantity of the various I/O point types, as presented in the table below. All models of the MP-C provide a serial port for the sensor bus. This port and the room space sensors connected to it do not participate in smoke control applications. To accommodate the quantity of I/O points available, the MP-C is produced in two different physical sizes. In addition, any MP-C model can be fitted with an optional MP-C Display module, which is designed to be easily field-mounted. See the Display module section for UL 864 requirements related to that device. The MP-C can be applied in dedicated or non-dedicated smoke control applications.
The I/O point types and capacities for the various MP-C models are presented in the following table.

All MP-C controller models have Universal I/O points designated as type Ub. The larger models provide additional Universal I/O points designated as type Uc. Both Ub and Uc point types can be configured in the application as any one of the Universal Input modes:
Digital Input (with or without circuit supervision)
Voltage Input (0 to 10V)
Current Input (0 to 20 mA)
Temperature Input (Thermistor or RTD sensing element)
Resistive Input (0 to 60,000 ohms)
Więcej informacji zawiera I/O Types for Modules and MP Controllers .
Type Ub points can be configured as Analog Outputs with 0 to 10 Volt output, in addition to their Universal Input functions. The two larger models, MP-C-24A and MP-C-36A, also feature type Uc points, which in addition to all the features of the type Ub point, can be configured as Analog Outputs with 0 to 20 mA Current output capability.
All MP-C controller models provide some number of Digital Outputs in one or more of the types listed in the following table.
Digital Output Types |
Description |
Triac |
All Triac outputs provide an isolated Triac with a common terminal that can be connected to ground for low side switching, or connected to 24 VAC for high side switching. For UL864 applications, the Triac output current limit is derated to 0.25 A maximum (down from the product marking). |
Relay outputs (Form-A) |
For switching up to 250 VAC/30 VDC, 2 A |
High power relay (Form-A) |
For switching up to 250 VAC/24 VDC, 12 A |
The Triac outputs can be used in many applications to switch up to 30 VAC at 0.25 A, on or off, for external loads such as actuators, relays, or indicators. The relay outputs provide a Form-A, normally open, SPST contact output capable of switching up to 250 VAC or 30 VDC at up to 2 A, or for versions with a single high-power relay, 250 VAC or 24 VDC, up to 12 A.
The relay outputs on MP-C controllers (and all other MP controller models) are rated for switching Nonpower-Limited circuits (up to 250 VAC). This feature is not typically applied in the United States, but when the relays are used to switch Nonpower-Limited circuits (>30 VAC), you must provide a minimum of ¼ inch separation between them and any Power-Limited circuits. When using the relays to switch both Power-Limited and Nonpower-Limited circuits, you must leave a vacant (unused) relay output terminal separating the two types of circuits in order to achieve the ¼ inch requirement at the terminal block entry. An exception is the high-power relay, which can be used with either power type, regardless whether there is an adjacent 2 A relay output in use.
All MP-C models are designed to operate on a supply voltage of 24 VAC or 24 to 30 VDC. However, for UL864 applications, all MP-C models must operate from 24 VAC, using one of the transformers listed in this guide. The DC power input, and the associated DC power sources required for those inputs, have not been evaluated and approved by UL864.

For the UL864 applications discussed in this guide, the MP-C controllers must be mounted in the common horizontal orientation as seen in the image above. This restriction is related to compliance with internal component temperatures required by UL864 derating for increased reliability.
Mounting the MP-C on a DIN rail is a simple, three-step, snap-on process, as illustrated below.
The MP-C can also be installed with screws on a flat surface inside a cabinet. Więcej informacji zawiera SpaceLogic MP-C-SMK Models Controller Models Installation Sheet GDE7787601-01 / 02-20041-02-en ., which includes a full-scale template for the required screw mounting holes.

When using the relays on the MP-C-18A-SMK to switch Nonpower-Limited circuits, you must observe proper separation between Triacs and relay outputs. This is necessary in order to achieve the ¼ inch separation requirement at the terminal block entry. For example, when the DO5 relay is used to switch Nonpower-Limited circuits, then the DO4 Triac output must be left vacant (unused).

The IP-IO module is used with BACnet/IP controllers to provide expanded I/O to HVAC and smoke control applications over BACnet/IP. IP-IO modules can share their I/O resources across applications running in automation servers or BACnet/IP controllers. IP-IO modules can be installed near facilities in the field, where they are needed, and do not need to be located near the associated automation server or BACnet/IP controller. The various models of IP-IO module offer a flexible mix of I/O point types. All IP-IO models are based on the same hardware platform as the smaller MP-C controller models, which are 6 inches (153 mm) in length, and have the same mounting options. As with the controllers, the IP-IO modules can be snapped onto a DIN rail or screw-mounted onto a flat surface inside a cabinet. All IP-IO modules allow the field-installation of the optional MP-C Display module, which is used to present input and output conditions, as well as communications parameters.
In smoke control applications, the control output override capability must be fully supervised. This is the case with MP-C controllers, which are programmable. However, with Display modules installed on IP-IO modules, this override function must be disabled in all smoke control applications because while the function will work, it cannot be supervised. This is done in the IP-IO module application configuration by disabling the control output override capability of the Display module.
To support the override disable function, the IP-IO modules with a display module should use one of the following firmware versions:
version 2.00.03.02201 (and later)
version 4.00.03.02000 (and later)
Refer to the EcoStruxure BMS Smoke Control System Approved Software Revisions document (01-16001-xx-en) to identify later approved versions.
The IP-IO module pictured below is a representative model (IP-IO-UIO5DOFA4-SMK). There are three models of the IP-IO module, described in the subsequent sections. Each features terminal blocks and legends appropriate to the I/O configuration supported by that model.
There are three models of the IP-IO module. The I/O point types and capacities for the IP-IO models are presented in the following table.

The optional MP-C Display module is designed to be mounted on any of the MP-C and IP-IO models. The Display module provides a backlit LCD display and 5 operator keys. On the Display module you can observe the condition or value of all digital and analog inputs and outputs. You can also manually override analog and digital outputs for testing, commissioning, and maintenance of equipment connected to those outputs.
The Display module can be easily installed in the receptacle located under the center cover plate of the MP-C controller or IP-IO module by removing the cover plate from the right side of the device and then pressing the Display module into place until the locking clips on the top and bottom snap into position. The Display module is designed to be mounted only once. Once installed, it cannot be removed without causing damage to the module or the device to which it is attached.
When the MP-C Display module is attached to the MP-C controller, the full set of functions and features are allowed. However, this requires override monitoring by the application and reporting to the FSCS. The I/O properties in the MP-C provide an indication to the application program, showing whether the point has been placed in the manual/Hand On or Off position. For all control points associated with the smoke control application, the manual control state must be supervised by the application, and if any of the points are found in the manual/Hand condition, the application must activate the system fault on the FSCS panel, including both audible and visual annunciations. The application may provide supplemental indication on the FSCS, showing the cause of the fault alarm to be output point override. This is the same requirement as that imposed on all other controller models that provide local, individual HOA override toggle switches that are monitored and whose alerts are indicated on the FSCS.
Więcej informacji zawiera FSCS Basics .
When the MP-C Display module is installed on an IP-IO module, the IP-IO application must be configured to disable all override functions from the Display module, so that the analog or digital outputs cannot be overridden. The reason for this requirement is that in the IP-IO application environment, the IP-IO module does not provide program objects capable of detecting and monitoring the output override conditions. The Display module may still be used to observe and control the IP communications properties and to display the condition and values associated with all analog and digital inputs and outputs.
