Connecting AD to AS-P or AS-B

You connect AD to an AS-P or AS-B in order to communicate with SmartStruxure servers over a USB connection, to supply the AD with power, and to ensure that its battery is charged.

AD v2 can use either a wired (USB) connection or a wireless (WiFi) connection to communicate with SmartStruxure servers. AD v2 can be powered either by an AS-P, AS-B, or USB power adapter, but not by an Automation Server.

Communication over a USB Connection

The preinstalled SmartX AD-Link application enables AD v2 to communicate with SmartStruxure servers over a USB connection.

When AD v2 is connected to AS-P or AS-B, AD v2 can be powered by the SmartStruxure server device through the USB cable. The screen must not be turned on constantly because this may drain the battery.

Notice

Loss of data

Use only USB cables ordered from Schneider Electric. Using a cable that exceeds 3 m (10 ft) or that is not designed for AD can cause loss of data or power.

Failure to follow these instructions can result in loss of data.

When AD v2 is connected to an Automation Server, AD v2 must be powered by a USB power adapter. The Automation Server does not provide enough power for AD v2. A USB “Y” cable allows you to connect AD v2 to two different devices, an Automation Server and a USB power adapter, to receive data and power respectively. The screen must not be turned on constantly because this may drain the battery.

Use only Samsung-approved power adapters. Using other power adapters can cause the battery to explode or damage the tablet.

Warning Warning

HAZARD OF EXPLOSION OR DEVICE DAMAGE

Use only Samsung-approved power adapters.

Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, serious injury, or equipment damage.

Communication over a Wireless Connection

AD v2 can communicate with SmartStruxure servers through a wireless access point (AP), which is connected to the same network as the SmartStruxure servers. When used as a stationary HMI terminal, AD v2 is connected to a USB power adapter to ensure that its battery is charged.

To connect AD to AS-P or AS-B
  1. Insert the USB cable from AD into the USB host port on the AS-P or AS-B.

    Notice

    Loss of data

Connect only one AD to AS-P or AS-B. The USB host port can supply only one AD with power. Connecting several ADs to an AS-P or AS-B can cause the ADs to lose performance, shut down, or discharge their batteries.

Failure to follow these instructions can result in loss of data.

  2. If an Attention message “Unable to find software on your computer that can recognize your device...” appears on AD, ignore the message and tap OK .

  3. Ensure that the screen timeout is configured to automatically turn off the screen when you are not using the device, because the sleep mode is used to fully charge the battery.
