MP-C Controllers

The MP-C controller is a multi-purpose, fully programmable, IP based field controller. The MP-C models offer a flexible mix of I/O point types that suits a wide range of HVAC applications. The MP-C can either be used as a standalone BACnet field controller or as part of an EcoStruxure BMS with an automation server or Enterprise Server as the parent server.

The MP-C allows for flexible control solutions due to the Ethernet ports, the interface to SpaceLogic Sensor devices, and the versatile mix of universal inputs/outputs, triac outputs, relay outputs, and high power relay outputs.

When MP-Cs are part of an EcoStruxure BMS, you can take full advantage of the existing EcoStruxure Building Operation engineering tools.

The MP-C can be installed on a DIN rail or other flat surface inside a cabinet.

The MP-C can be equipped with MP-C Display, which is an optional add-on module for output override. The MP-C Display can also be used to view and locally configure inputs and outputs.

The MP-C is available in several different models, including a category of models that differ from the other models in that they only support BACnet MS/TP communication, have a reduced set of communication ports and do not support features such as the MP-C Display.

MP-C Models

The MP-C controller is available in five models that support BACnet/IP communication. These five models offer five different combinations (sets) of the number of I/O points and types of I/O points. The MP-C controller also comes in two models that only support BACnet MS/TP communication.

For more information, see MP-C Models .

MP-C Onboard I/O

The MP-C models offer a versatile mix of I/O point types that match a wide variety of applications. Most of the I/O points are universal inputs/outputs, which are highly flexible and can be configured as either inputs or outputs.

For more information, see MP-C Onboard I/O .

Output Override Function (Optional)

The output override function allows you to manually override outputs. This function can be used for testing, commissioning, and maintenance of equipment.

For more information, see Output Override Function .

MP-C Built-in Power Supply

The MP-C has a built-in power supply designed to accommodate 24 VAC at 50/60 Hz or 24 to 30 VDC input power.

For more information, see MP-C Built-in Power Supply .

Memory in RP and MP Controllers and I/O Modules

RP and MP controllers and I/O modules are devices that have three types of memory:

  • Flash memory: for boot loader, operating system, application software, and configuration storage

  • RAM: for runtime operation

  • FRAM non-volatile memory: for data retention in the case of power outage

For more information, see Memory in RP and MP Controllers and I/O Modules .

RP and MP Controller Supported Building Standards

One of the cornerstones of the EcoStruxure BMS is support for open standards. As a result, the RP and MP controllers comply with the BACnet open standard, one of the most popular standards for buildings.

For more information, see RP and MP Controller Supported Building Standards .

MP-C Communication Ports

The MP-C controller provides a combination of communication ports, such as:

  • Ethernet port(s)

  • USB port(s)

  • RS-485 port(s)

For more information, see MP-C Communication Ports .

MP-C Sensor Bus

The MP-C sensor bus allows SpaceLogic Sensor devices to be connected to the controller.

For more information, see MP-C Sensor Bus .

MP-C Modbus

The MP controller Modbus RTU (RS-485) subnetwork allows standard Modbus devices to be connected to the controller. An adapter is required for converting the controller RS-485 Com port with RJ45 interface to screw terminals.

For more information, see MP-C Modbus .

MP-C BACnet MS/TP Support

The support for BACnet MS/TP communication differs between the MP-C controller models. Only MP-C models with “-M” in the product name support BACnet MS/TP. These MP-C models are designed for connection to a BACnet MS/TP (RS-485) network and can only communicate with automation servers using the BACnet MS/TP protocol.

For more information, see MP-C BACnet MS/TP Support .

MS/TP DIP Switches

You must configure the DIP switches as part of the commissioning process for the RP and MP controllers and RP-IO modules that only support MS/TP communications.

For more information, see MS/TP DIP Switches .

MP-C Screw Terminals

Most of the MP-C controller models have removable (pluggable) screw terminal blocks for the power input and onboard I/O. The removable terminal blocks are easy to install and remove from the device. The terminal blocks are installed on the device at delivery. MP-C models with “-M” in the product name have fixed screw terminals for the power input and onboard I/O and a removable screw terminal block for connection to the BACnet MS/TP (RS-485) network.

For more information, see MP-C Screw Terminals .

MP-C Controller LEDs

There are five or three LEDs on the front panel of the MP-C controller, depending on the MP-C model.

For more information, see MP-C Controller LEDs .

MP Controller Reset Modes

You can reset and restart the MP controllers in different ways depending on how long you press the reset button. The resets and restarts can affect the retention of values after restart based on the retain levels configured for the variables.

For more information, see MP Controller Reset Modes .

MP-C Device Installation

The MP-C can be installed on a DIN rail or other flat surface inside a cabinet. The device is recommended to be installed in a cabinet, unless local regulations allow an exception.

For more information, see MP-C Device Installation .

Wiring

The wiring recommendations provide guidance regarding wiring of the Central IO modules, automation servers, RP and MP controllers, IP-IO and RP-IO modules, RP controller expansion modules, and Operator Display.

For more information, see Wiring .

Firmware Management of MP and RP Controllers and IP-IO and RP-IO Modules

Using WorkStation, you can update the firmware of multiple BACnet/IP devices and their attached SpaceLogic Sensor devices at the same time with minimum downtime. In particular, the universal upgrade package simplifies the update process and requires minimal user involvement and coordination.

Tip:

SpaceLogic Sensor devices are supported by the BACnet/IP controllers - MP and RP controllers.

For more information, see BACnet/IP Device Firmware Management .
