Connecting to a Controller with the SpaceLogic Bluetooth Adapter

The SpaceLogic Bluetooth Adapter allows you to establish a Bluetooth connection to MP and RP controllers. To connect to a device through the SpaceLogic Bluetooth Adapter, a SpaceLogic Sensor must be wired to the controller.

You can choose from several different options to connect the Commission mobile application to one or more BACnet/IP controllers.

Connect by Wire

You can use a CAT5e or CAT6 Ethernet cable to connect a Windows laptop computer running the Commission mobile application to one or more BACnet/IP controllers, using either of two methods:

  • A direct connection to a free Ethernet port on a controller

  • A connection to an Ethernet switch to which one or more controllers are also connected

Important:

When connecting the Commission mobile application laptop computer to one or more BACnet/IP controllers by wire, you must use one of three methods of IP addressing:

  • Include a DHCP server to assign dynamic addresses to the controllers.

  • Where a DHCP server is not included, use AutoIP to assign dynamic addresses to the controllers.

  • Where a DHCP server is not included, assign static addresses to the controllers.

Note:

You do not need to know the IP address of the Commission mobile application because it is not required for BACnet device discovery. For more information, see BACnet Device Discovery .

Note:

When the BACnet/IP controller's Ethernet port 2 is not used by the controller network, you can connect the Commission mobile application using that port without disruption or additional hardware. When the BACnet/IP controller's Ethernet port 2 is used by the controller network (for example, in a daisy-chain or RSTP network topology), you can add a temporary switch or hub to ensure that connectivity is maintained while the Commission mobile application is in operation.

If Ethernet port 2 will not be used, you can disable this port for network security purposes by configuring the Ethernet port 2 property on the Basic tab of the BACnet/IP controller. For more information, see BACnet/IP Controller Settings Properties – Basic Tab .

Connect Wirelessly

Connect the Commission mobile application wirelessly to a BACnet/IP controller network, using a WiFi router or a wireless access point.

Wireless router

In many cases it is possible to set up a temporary WiFi network, using a WiFi router that contains a DHCP server. The DHCP server provides IP addresses to the BACnet/IP controllers and the Commission mobile application. The router you choose must have a configurable IP address range.

For more information, see Connecting to Network of BACnet/IP Controllers through WiFi Router .

Wireless access point

You can also connect the Commission mobile application to the controller network using a wireless access point. The access point must be networked with a DHCP server, which serves up the IP address. Typically the access point is connected to Port 2 of the AS-P, which is configured for dual IP.

Notice

SPACELOGIC SENSOR OR OTHER EQUIPMENT DAMAGE

  • Plug in the adapter with the button to the front.

  • Do not plug into any device other than a SpaceLogic Sensor.

Failure to follow these instructions can result in equipment damage.

To connect to controller with the SpaceLogic Bluetooth Adapter
  1. In the Connect view, select Bluetooth .

  2. Remove the protective cap from the Adapter. With the LED push button facing you, plug the Adapter into the SpaceLogic Sensor.

    Note:

Should the adapter not turn on, be sure to consult the troubleshooting topic. For more information, see Bluetooth Adapter Not Turning On .

  3. Press the LED push button to initiate the pairing (advertising) mode.

    Note:

Pairing mode lasts for 60 seconds. After that time, you will need to press the LED push button again to initiate pairing (advertising) mode.

The blue LED flashes rapidly On for 1 second and Off for 1 second in a repeating pattern while in advertising mode. For more information, see Bluetooth LED Functionality .

  4. In the Commission mobile application, in Bluetooth Devices page, select the Adapter and then select Connect .

The blue LED changes to steady On (Connected Mode) when successfully paired to the controller.

  5. In the Bluetooth Device Management page, perform two optional tasks:

  6. Select Discover Device .

  7. Your mobile device or Windows 10 laptop prompts you for the Adapter PIN. Enter the PIN and select Allow .

    Note:

Your mobile device or Windows 10 laptop will remember the Adapter PIN after you connect to the Adapter. You will not need to enter the PIN again unless you forget the Adapter or change the PIN.

  8. When the PIN has been successfully entered, select Close .

  9. In the Device List page, select the check box next to the controller and select Next .

When you see the Device Settings page, you have successfully connected to the controller.

Important:

The Adapter must stay plugged into the corresponding SpaceLogic Sensor during all device commissioning tasks. Removing the Adapter disconnects you from the controller. Similarly, you are disconnected from your mobile device should you close the Commission mobile application or switch to another application on your device.
