Communication Ports on RP-V-4A and -5A

arrow1_rotationEthernet Ports arrow1_rotationUSB Port arrow1_rotationRS-485 Ports

The RP-V-4A and RP-V-5A models provide the following combination of communication ports:

  • Two Ethernet ports

  • One USB port

  • Two RS-485 ports (RJ45)

Ethernet Ports

The two Ethernet ports are labeled:

  • Ethernet 1

  • Ethernet 2

The two Ethernet ports are 10/100BASE-TX (RJ45) ports. When both Ethernet ports are enabled, they function as an onboard Ethernet switch. Disabling the second Ethernet port disables the switching function. The switching function enables flexible network topologies. For more information, see BACnet/IP Controller Network Topologies . The second port also provides a connection point for a laptop running the Commission mobile application.

For more information, see Communication Port Wiring .

USB Port

The USB port is labeled:

  • Host

The USB host port is a USB 2.0 type-A port, which is rated 2.5 W. The USB host port can be used for connection of Wireless Adapter - Advanced to add Zigbee TM wireless connectivity to the RP controller. The adapter can be used to extend the controller's point count and bring flexibility in retrofit applications. For more information, see Wireless Adapter - Advanced .

For more information, see Communication Port Wiring .

RS-485 Ports

The two RS-485 ports are labeled:

  • RS-485 Com A

  • RS-485 Com B

The RS-485 ports are rated for a maximum load of 3 W (24 VDC) per RS-485 port with a maximum total load of 4 W for the two RS-485 ports.

The two RS-485 ports are RJ45 ports. For more information, see RJ45 Pinout for the RS-485 Port(s) of the RP-V Controllers .

Each port can be configured to use one of the following communication protocols for different types of networks:

  • Sensor bus

  • Room bus

  • Modbus

Note:

An RP controller can have only one of each network type.

The sensor bus is designed for communication with SpaceLogic Sensor devices. For more information, see RP-V Sensor Bus .

The room bus is designed for communication with RP controller expansion modules for connected room solutions. For more information, see RP-V Room Bus .

The Modbus (RTU) network can be used for communication with the KNX Modbus gateway (RP-C-EXT-KNX) and standard Modbus devices. For more information, see RP-V Modbus .

One of the RS-485 ports can also be configured to support BACnet MS/TP network communication with the automation server. For more information, see RP-V BACnet MS/TP Support . The other RS-485 port can then be configured to support either sensor bus, room bus, or Modbus network.

For more information, see Allocating Flexible Ports .

Default configurations:

  • Sensor bus on the RS-485 Com A port

  • Room bus on the RS-485 Com B port

For more information, see Communication Port Wiring .
