Device Administrator is used to manage licenses on automation servers.

Licenses on Automation Servers

The following features of an automation server need licenses.

SmartDrivers

To be able to use SmartDrivers on an automation server one license is needed for every SmartDriver that runs on the automation server.

SNMP Notifications

To be able to use SNMP Notification on an automation server, a license is required.

For a stand-alone automation server, the license is local for the automation server and administered by Device Administrator.

In a multi-server system, you can use inherited licenses.

Personal Dashboards

To be able to create personal dashboards on an automation server, you need a license. Personal dashboards are used in WebStation.

For a stand-alone automation server, the license can be local for the automation server and administered by Device Administrator.

TimescaleDB

To be able to use TimescaleDB on an automation server, a license is required.

MQTT

To be able to read and write to an MQTT broker from an MQTT client on an automation server, you need a license. For a stand-alone automation server, the license is local for the automation server and administered by Device Administrator.

In a multi-server system, you can use inherited licenses.

Entitlements, Products, and Licenses

Licenses are bought as products and delivered in Entitlements. An Entitlement is a container that can contain several products. The products contain the licenses and they can differ in quantity and contents.

Automation Server Licensing Workflow

Use this workflow to add licenses to automation servers using Device Administrator.

Certificates

It is recommended to use HTTPS for the communication between Device Administrator and automation servers when you manage licenses.

To add an entitlement without the HTML file when automation server is not connected to License Server (FNO)
  1. In Device Administrator, click Entitlements .

  2. Click the Add Entitlement down arrow and click Manually .

  3. Enter the entitlement ID.

  4. Click Next .

  5. Click Skip .

    If you know that you do not have any server connected to internet in the list, click Skip . If you do not click Skip , Device Administrator goes through all servers in your list until it finds one that is connected to internet.

  6. In the Entitlement Products - Enter Manually list , enter the Activation ID, Description and seat count for the product.

  7. Click Add Product , to add more products.

  8. Click Add .

When there is no connection between the automation server and License Server, Device Administrator cannot synchronize the number of licenses in the entitlement that are available for activation.

Instead, Device Administrator assumes that all licenses that was purchased can be activated
