Terminal Base Wiring

You can wire a terminal base prior to installing an electronics module. Wiring can also be carried out after a module has been installed in its terminal base. Be sure to use the recommended cables.

Some modules or terminal bases may carry lethal voltages. Isolate the supply before wiring.

Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, serious injury, or equipment damage.

Access the terminal block screw as follows:

  • Unplug the electronics module or open the clear plastic label carrier or cover

  • Strip back the individual wires and insert each one into its correct terminal

  • Securely tighten the terminal on the wire using a small flat-blade screwdriver

  • Close the top clear plastic label carrier or reinsert the electronics module

Power Limited and Nonpower-Limited Circuits and Separation

The 24 VAC input to the PS-24 supply and all signal Input connections and analog output signal connections to the I/O modules are Power-Limited circuits.

The Digital Outputs (DO) on the DIN rail-mounted Central I/O modules provide relay control outputs and are rated for switching circuits up to 230 VAC. The relay outputs are Nonpower-Limited circuits when connected to line voltage levels. The power source delivered to the relay output circuits must include circuit breaker protection limiting the maximum amperage to the level suitable for the wire types used in the relay output wiring and field control circuits.

You should separate the Nonpower-Limited circuits such as the line voltage feeding the transformer primary inputs and the relay output circuits from the Power-Limited circuits in the equipment or controls enclosure with a minimum separation of 1/4 inch (6.35 mm). The two should use separate conduit portals for extending to the field devices. A separate wiring duct is recommended for maintaining the separation as the Nonpower-Limited wiring traverses the enclosure to a separate entry/exit location in the enclosure.

Do not combine signal inputs with AC voltage sources in the same conduit (regardless of whether both are power limited) to reduce AC noise pickup on the low voltage signals.

Also, ensure that field wiring does not lay over the top/face of the I/O modules, or the circuit boards of the field controllers.
