Configuring the Semantic Settings

You configure the semantic settings if you, for example, want to change the EBO user that connects to the semantic database or use a semantic database on another location than the default location.

The EcoStruxure Building Operation software supports a database solution for external storage of semantic information.

The semantic information is a contextual representation of a building that follows the Brick schema. It includes representation of building assets such as points, locations, and equipment.

The semantic information is configured in WorkStation, and the information is available in WorkStation and WebStation. The information is also available through EcoStruxure Web Services.

Semantic Database

EcoStruxure Building Operation uses a Sparql database, GraphDB from Ontotext, to handle semantic queries.

For more information, see Semantic Database .

Ontologies

Semantic is based on ontologies.

For more information, see Ontologies .

Semantic Data and EWS

The EWS metadata makes it possible to add semantic information to the EWS items, provided that the EBO object that is exposed by EWS is semantically described.

Semantic tagging is exposed using EWS.

For more information, see Semantic Data and EWS .

Licensing

You can use a limited number of queries in the Graph database without a license. To be able to use the Graph database to its full extent a license is needed.

If you use an GraphDB on another location than the EBO default location, you have to aquire a license.

Semantic Navigation

You can navigate the semantic database using search and filter.

For more information, see Semantic Navigation in WorkStation .

For more information, see Semantic Navigation in WebStation .

Configure EcoStruxure Building Automation System to use Semantic Tagging

Use this workflow to configure EcoStruxure Building Automation system to use semantics.

For more information, see Configure EcoStruxure Building Automation System to use Semantic Workflow .

Semantic Engineering

Semantic engineering is the process describing an EcoStruxure Building operation database using semantic s .

For more information, see Semantic Engineering Overview .

Tenant Repository

You can create a semantic repository for each tenant. You do this in a system with multi tenants where you do not want the tenants to share their semantic information.

For more information, see Tenant Repository .

To configure the semantic settings
  1. In WorkStation, in the System Tree pane, select the EBO server.

  2. Click the Control Panel tab.

  3. Under Semantics , click Settings .

  4. Configure the settings.

    Component

    Description

    Semantic DB URL

Enter the address to the semantic database.

After you have entered a new database address, you must upload ontologies and restart WorkStation.

For more information, see Uploading Ontologies .

    Repository

Type the name to the repository on the semant ic databa se you want to use.

    Username

Enter the username of the EBO user that you want to use to connect with the semantic database.

    Password

Type the password of the EBO user that you want to use to connect to the semantic database.

    Confirm password

Confirm the password for the EBO user.

    Query Timeout

Enter the timeout the EBO server uses for normal queries against the semantic database.

    Update Timeout

Enter the timeout the EBO server uses for uploading ontologies to the semantic database.

    Search Timeout

Enter the timeout the EBO server uses for search queries against the semantic database.

    Export Timeout

Enter the timeout the EBO server uses for export queries against the semantic database.

    Insert Batch Size

Enter the maximum batch size of files imported to the EBO server from the semantic database.

    Lead object

The lead-shadow mechanism is automatically configured for the semantic database in all EBO servers in the system. You should not change this if you use the same semantic database for the whole EBO system.

  5. Click OK .
